Parship began their UK singles service on 13th June, 2005 but the firm has been supplying dating services in Germany and other European countries since 2001 (it's possible to register with Parship either as a UK only or global member).

Parship provide the usual photograph profiles and secure e-mail service but a major feature of this service is the detailed personality test you complete when registering.

The test itself was devised by Dr. Hugo Schmale, a professor of psychology at the University of Hamburg (you will need to search for German pages to find him listed at the university) and a specialist in the area of personal relationships.

This is quite a long questionnaire containing simple questionnaire items on the subject of habits and beliefs, in addition to a series of projective tests in which you've to select between alternative graphical figures and select names for images of scenes.  The results are used to build a psychometric profile which the service uses when you search for potential partners.  You can additionally get a summary of your personality test results when you have completed your registration and a detailed personality assessment is available as an added extra if you take out a 6 month subscription.

Parship has partnered with a number of the major UK newspapers and magazines to provide the dating service on their sites. Partners include the Daily Express, Independent, What's On Stage and Hello Magazine, so this is a service that is taken seriously by some big players.

Overall this service feels more like an old fashioned dating service where someone else (the personality matching) is working on your behalf to source suitable people. As with the majority of services, registration and the personality test is free and you can then do a search for prospective partners. Membership fees become payable when you wish to send messages to others on the service.

This may be a little more pricey than the majority of services but if you are serious about finding a partner then I think the effort this service puts in to find you someone compatable is most likely worth the extra money.
